Robert "Bob" G. Westberg, age 88, of Boone, died at the Boone County Hospital on Sunday, January 22, 2012.
His body has been cremated and burial of his cremains will be at a later date.
Bob was born September 2, 1923, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Carl and Lytha (Houser) Westberg.
On March 1, 1941, he married Virginia Hurst Whiteman at the Methodist Church in Boone.
Bob was a foreman for Keller Painting Contractor in Des Moines for many years, and he was employed as a painter at Iowa State University until he retired in 1985.
After retirement, he worked part-time for Moffitt’s Ford.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, and served in the Battle of the Bulge.
He was a lifetime member of the American Legion in Boone.
Bob enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards with his buddies, and socializing with family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia; and son, James Robert Westberg.
Survivors include: a daughter, Jill (Bill) Troché of Boone; three grandsons, Kelly James Askvig of Thailand; Michael David (Kris) Askvig of Oceanside, CA; Joel Matthew (Jintana) Askvig of Wildomar, CA; great grandson Ross and great granddaughters Natalie and Jasmine; and a sister Shirley Piper of Scottsdale, AZ.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of arrangements.
