Sandra Hammond, age 62, of 425 S. Clinton Street, died August 16, 2013, at the Boone County Hospital.
Following her wishes, her body has been cremated.
Friends are invited to the McHose Park Shelter House in Boone to visit with Sandra’s family on Friday, August 23, 2013, from 4 until 6 p.m. A service celebrating her life will begin at 5 p.m.
There will be food and refreshments beginning at 6 p.m.
Sandra was born in Jefferson, Iowa, on November 6, 1950, the daughter of Thomas and Audrey (Wisecup) Rouse.
She graduated from Ryan High School in Boone in 1968 and also graduated from DMACC Boone Campus receiving her LPN certification.
Working in Ames, Sandra was Residential Services Director for the Story County Community Life Program.
She enjoyed gardening, walking and participating in marathons, listening to music, traveling, especially to Europe, Spain, England, Ireland, and the South Pacific, and watching hummingbirds “because they are about joy”.
Sandra especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her granddaughter, Lucy.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Sandra is survived by three sons: Saul Hammond and Michael Hammond, both of Ames, and C.T. Hammond and wife Megan of Ankeny; her granddaughter Lucy Hammond; eight brothers: Patrick and wife Fran of Ames, Michael of Oakdale, Thomas R. of Ogden, James and wife Suzie, Joseph, John and wife Teresa, and Paul, all of Boone, and David and wife Janelle of Clive; five sisters: Teresa Rouse of Iowa City, Diane Brown of Ames, Christine Peter and husband Larry of Nevada, Nancy Rouse of Galveston, Texas, and Kay DeVoogd and husband Bob of Boone.
Also surviving is Drake, her yellow lab, and many nieces and nephews.
In memory of Sandra, memorials may be directed to the family.
Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of the arrangements.
