Obituary for Brody Smith

Brody Smith, age 57 of Boone, died January 4, 2017, at the Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames.Following his wishes, he has been cremated.

A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, January 10, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall with Rev. Dianna Clark officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery at a later date.

Brody Eugene Smith was born in Boone, Iowa on January 22, 1959, the son of Billie and Patricia (Griffith) Smith. He graduated from Boone High School in 1978 and on December 22, 1998, Brody married Colleen Platter. Brody was a salesman and small engine mechanic for his father’s former businesses in Boone: Red Fox Sporting Goods and Red Fox Marine and Trailers. He also was a self-employed welder.

Brody enjoyed watching NASCAR and driver Tony Stewart, cooking, vegetable gardening, and in earlier years, hunting and fishing.

He is preceded in death by his father Bill, a sister Debra Morris, and a nephew Ryan Smith. Brody is survived by his wife Colleen ‘Coke’ of Boone; his mother Pat of Boone; two sons, Zach and Adam Mertens; grandchildren, Kennedi Martin, Misty Alberts, Kenzie, Lane, Hayden, and Hendrix Mertens; his brother, Craig of Boone; his dog companions, Saddie, Coco, and Buddy.

Friends may call at the funeral chapel on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. On Tuesday, friends may call from 8 a.m. until service time.
