Obituary for Doris Mae Phipps

Doris Phipps, 88, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died March 1, 2018 at the Home.

Following her wishes, Doris has been cremated. Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, Sixth and Marshall, on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:30 P.M. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 P.M. with Pastor King Smith officiating. A graveside service and burial will be on Wednesday, March 7, 2018 at 9:30 A.M. at Mineral Ridge Cemetery, Ridgeport.

Doris Mae Phipps, was born in Polk County, Iowa on March 12, 1929, the daughter of Hugh and Charlotte P. (Adams) Phipps. She graduated from Boone High School in 1947. Doris worked for 27 years as a specialty sorter for garments for the former Oshkosh Tanning in Boone. She retired in 1997. She was a member of Central Christian Church in Boone, the Boone and Ogden Saddle Clubs, Charter Member of the Iowa Draft Pony Hitch Association, Palomino Exhibiters Association and she exhibited ponies at the Iowa State Fair for 50 years. Doris loved ponies, horses, trail riding and competition shows.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Dean Phipps and wife, Sandy. Doris is survived by brother, Don Phipps and wife, Marlys of Ankeny; two nephews, Harold Phipps and wife, Dawn of Polk City and David Phipps and wife, Laura of Ogden and two nieces, Janine Seibert and husband, John of Key West, Florida and Leona Viau and husband, Jim of Boone.

In memory of Doris, memorials may be directed to the Boone Area Humane Society.
