Obituary for Ernest Ingram

Ernest Ingram, beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at the age of 81 at Iowa Methodist Hospital.

A visitation will be held Friday, June 30, 2017 at Evangelical Free Church from 3-8pm with the family will be present from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 1, 2017 at 2pm at Evangelical Free Church with internment in the Squire Boone Cemetery and a reception to follow at the Evangelical Free Church. Pastor Mark Doss will officiate the ceremony.

Ernest was born on February 29, 1936 in Lake City, Iowa to Amos and Lila Ingram. He married his high school sweetheart, Evelyn Strand, on January 10, 1957 in Lake City, Iowa. They had five children while moving around Iowa; In 1969 they settled in Boone, Iowa so he could pursue a college degree at Iowa State University. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology in 1973. Following graduation, Ernest worked for the Iowa Workforce Development Center in Boone and Ames, Iowa until his retirement in 2001.

Ernest had many hobbies that he enjoyed greatly, including woodworking, gardening, reading the bible, playing checkers and solitaire, and spending time with his family.

His parents, his sisters Marion, Ruth, Lois, and his brother “Bud” precede Ernest in death. Ernest is survived by his wife of 60 years, Evelyn, his son Jerry and wife Catherine of Pine Bluff, AR, his son Brian and wife Mary of Boone, IA, his daughter Linda and husband Jeff of Boone, IA, his son Mark and wife Melody of Creston, IA, and his daughter Kim and husband Chris of Boone, IA, twenty-eight grandchildren and twenty-seven great-grandchildren.

His children and grandchildren remember him as a loving dad and grandpa who encouraged them to pursue their goals. Ernest was a generous man with a quick wit and dry sense of humor. He was an active and dedicated member of the Evangelical Free Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family. The family would like to thank the Methodist Hospital staff, nurses, and doctors for their kind and compassionate care.
