Obituary for Frances E. Fisher

Frances “Francy” Fisher, age 88 of Boone, died March 21, 2017 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Following her wishes, Francy has been cremated. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service, will be held Saturday, June 10, 2017 at 11:00 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church with Rev. Doug Cue officiating.

Frances Elizabeth (Gordon) Fisher, was born in Lincoln, Illinois on August 20, 1928, the daughter of Noah and Clara (Ryan) Gordon. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Illinois in 1946, and in 1950, graduated from Knox College in Galesburg, Illinois with a Liberal Arts Degree. On May 26, 1951, Frances married Robert Fisher in Lincoln. The couple moved to Boone in 1953. A housewife and mother, Francy served as a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, and was active in her church as a Sunday school teacher. She also was a member of PEO in Boone, Jr. Monday Study Club, volunteered at the Boone County Hospital, and served on the Board of Directors of the Iowa Lung Association. Francy worked as an assistant with her husband at Fisher’s Shoes, from 1980 to 1992 when she retired.

She enjoyed being with her family, especially during the holidays, attending her sons sporting events, crossword puzzles, and card playing, She was very proud of her Irish heritage. After retirement, Francy and Bob enjoyed extensive traveling and wintering in Naples, Florida.

She is preceded in death by her parents, and a sister, Lewise Manatt. Francy is survived by her husband, Robert of Boone; three sons, John Fisher and wife Jennifer of Newnan, Georgia; James Fisher and wife Linda of Urbandale, and their children, Andrew Fisher of West Des Moines, Alex Fisher of Urbandale, and his fiancé, Ashley Longlet of Johnston, and Allison Fisher of Iowa City; and Judson Fisher and wife Cindy of Joplin, Missouri, and their children, Katie Swisher and husband Dr. Sam Swisher, of Marshfield, Missouri, and their son Gabe, and 1st Lt. Nathan Fisher, U.S. Army, and wife, Jamie of Fort Bragg, North Carolina, and their son, Luke. Also surviving are nieces Meg Manatt of Boone, and Kathy Manatt of Austin, Texas; a brother-in-law, David Fisher and wife Dorie of West Des Moines, sister-in-law Bebe Arbuckle of Hutchinson, Kansas, and numerous other nieces and nephews.

In memory of Francy, memorials may be directed to the Foundation Fund at First United Methodist Church or the Ericson Public Library.
