Obituary for Genevieve Cook

Genevieve “Gen” Cook, 97, of Boone, died Friday, September 15, 2017 at the Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa.

Per her wishes, she has been cremated. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel. Inurnment will be in Linwood Park Cemetery, Boone.

Genevieve “Gen” (Jones) Cook, was born July 29, 1920 in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Mordecai Stone and Ida Caroline (McDaniel) Jones. In 1938, she graduated from Jordan High School. On July 2, 1951, Gen was united in marriage to James Theodore Cook in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Gen was a homemaker for her family. She enjoyed visiting with friends and family, playing bingo and cards. Gen was a member of the Augustana Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James, Sr. in 2007; her parents; her daughter, Jeananne J. DeGroote; her two sons, Joseph Donald Cook and James T. Cook, Jr. and nine siblings. She is survived by her daughter, Sandra (Tom) Lainson of Dallas, Texas; four grandchildren, Michelle Lainson of Dallas, Texas, Patrick (Judy) Lainson of Flower Mound, Texas, Rebecca (Steve) Slemmons of Fort Worth, Texas and Leah (Frank) White of Woodward, Iowa; five great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

There will be no visitation.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be given to Augustana Lutheran Church.
