Obituary for James Smith

James Smith, age 45 of Boone, died July 5, 2018 due in injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Boonville, Missouri.

Funeral Services will be Friday, July 13, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, with Rev. Phil Waldo officiating. Following the service, James will be cremated and his cremains will be buried with his wife, Jody, at a later date, in the Rose Hill Cemetery, west of Boone.

James Mitchell Smith, was born in Saline County in Missouri, on May 12, 1973, the son of Gene and Judy (Shively) VanDeren. He attended Boone High School. On June 29, 2002, James married Jody Smith in Boone, Iowa. James was a construction worker and initially worked for Bill Carpenter Construction in Boone. Presently, he worked for Jensen Builders of Fort Dodge. James enjoyed spending time with family and friends and he loved to grill outdoors. He knew how to grill a good steak. He was always found working or ‘tinkering’ on something.
James was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #104 of Boone, Fraternal Order of Eagles in Fort Dodge, and the Boone County Historical Society.

He was preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, Weldon VanDeren, Wilma VanDeren, and Bud Shively, an uncle, Kenneth VanDeren, and an aunt, Peggy VanDeren. James is survived by a daughter, Alisyn Smith of Boone; a stepson, Adam Coy and a granddaughter, Lila Coy of Boone; his father, Gene VanDeren of Missouri; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Patsy and Larry Smith of Boone; two brothers, Jason (Karen) Vanderen of Boone and Weldon VanDeren of Clinton, Missouri; two sisters, April VanDeren of Boone and Melissa (Jeremy) Mahaney of Marshall, Missouri; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, on Thursday from 3 until 7 p.m. where the family will be present form 5 to 7 p.m. On Friday, friends may call at the funeral chapel from 8 a.m. until service time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
