Obituary for Kenneth Verdale Hollander

Kenneth Hollander, 77, of the Stratford Special Care Community in Stratford, and formerly of Boone, died Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Boone County Hospital.

Following his wishes, Kenneth has been cremated and no formal services will be held.
Kenneth Verdale Hollander, was born in Denison, Iowa on July 10, 1940, the son of Henry and Margaret (Lindstrom) Hollander. He graduated from Manilla High School in 1958. Ken was united in marriage to Beverly Weinbrandt in Manning, Iowa in 1961. To this union six children were born, Ronda, Scott, Barry, Steve, Doug and Jill. The couple later divorced.

Ken worked as a surveyor for Shelby County in Iowa and later became a semi-truck driver, hauling grain and other products in the Harlan, Iowa area. In 1977, Ken moved to California to work for General Motors on the assembly line. While in California, he was united in marriage to Lynn White in 1980. After working for General Motors, Lynn and Ken managed an apartment complex in California. In 1997, he moved back to the Boone area.

Ken enjoyed watching TV, mainly sports and western movies. He was also an avid Iowa Hawkeyes Athletics fan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lynn; a son, Scott; a sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Pete Pederson; a brother-in-law, Paul Lehrkamp; a neice, Becky Lehrkamp-McHenry; a nephew, Gary Lehrkamp. Ken is survived by his children, Ronda Bochmann and husband, Darrell of Boone, Barry Hollander of Montana, Steve Hollander and wife, Sheri of Glenwood, Doug Hollander of Montana and Jill Doerr and husband, Dennis of Bloomfield, Nebraska; ten grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; three siblings, Henrietta Beckenhauer of Manilla, Bob Hollander of Council Bluffs, and Pam Prusa and husband, Gary of Manilla; numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family.
