Obituary for Mabel Moeller

Mabel Moeller, age 86, of Boone, died November 22, 2016 at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be Saturday, November 26, 2016, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 281 Spruce Lane, (northeast of Boone), with Pastor Michael Standfest officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul’s Cemetery.
Mabel Frances (Sturtz) Moeller, was born in Boone, Iowa on May 21, 1930, the daughter of Walter Virgil and Thresa (Pollard) Sturtz. She was baptized on April 9, 1939 at the Boone Baptist Church. Mabel graduated from Boone High School in 1948. She attended Iowa State Teacher’s College in Cedar Falls and took classes at Drake University and Iowa State University. Mabel taught school for 32 years, starting in the Boone country schools; her last 25 years teaching at Trinity Lutheran School in Boone. On June 21, 1952, Mabel married Loren Moeller at the Mineral Ridge Baptist Church. She was confirmed in January of 1954 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, rural Boone.
She was active in St. Paul’s Ladies Society, choir, and voter’s meetings. Mabel also volunteered as a 4-H leader and was a member and active in AARP, Retired Teachers Association, and the Boone Senior Citizens. She enjoyed quilting and many quilts were sent abroad to world relief missions. She especially enjoyed spending time with her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
Mabel is preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 53 years, Loren, and a brother, Arthur ‘Art’ Sturtz. She is survived by her four children; Wendell Moeller and wife Diane of Porter, Texas, Kendall Moeller and wife Reva of Treasure Island, Florida, Pattilee Frei and husband Mitch and Danelle McBirnie, all of Boone; eight grandchildren, Chad Moeller and wife Ingrid, Kristin Chavira and husband Roger, Kira Hamilton and husband Jon, Landon Moeller, Corinne Frei, Jason Frei, Austin McBirnie and Adam McBirnie; five great grandchildren, Jett Chavira, Kyle Chavira, Eliza Moeller, Tytan Hamilton, and Ryker Hamilton; her sister and brother-in-law Maxine Anderson and husband LaVerne of Des Moines; sisters-in-law, Beverly Sturtz, Carol Moeller, and Mary Ann Granzberg and husband Gary, all of Boone, and many other relatives and friends.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Friday from 3 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
On Saturday, friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
