Obituary for Margaret Smith

Margaret Smith, age 71 of Boone, died March 21, 2017 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.Following her wishes, she has been cremated.

A Memorial Service will be Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 10:00 a.m., at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, at Sixth and Marshall, with Chaplain Katherine Werner officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.

Margaret Ellen (McDonald) Smith, was born in Oregon City, Oregon on December 17, 1945, the daughter of Alfred and Avis (Jackson) McDonald. She graduated from Holcomb High School in Holcomb, Kansas. Margaret married John Meyeres. The couple later divorced. On May 16, 1970, Margaret married Roy Smith at Garden City, Kansas.

The couple lived in Deerfield, Kansas, where Margaret worked as a cook for the Deerfield School System, and was a member of the Capsula Club; and Mannford, Oklahoma, where she worked as an assembler for Allegiance Surgical Instrument. The couple also lived in Neodesha, Kansas, and Tekamah, Nebraska, before moving to Boone last year.

Margaret enjoyed fishing, genealogy, crocheting, Pogo, watching TV games shows, and going to the thrift stores and garage sales. Margaret loved spending time with her family and keeping in touch with her friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Alfred ‘Jack’ and Avis McDonald, a niece, Michelle (Coppock) Hammond and a nephew, Bryan Babcock.

Margaret is survived by her husband, Roy of Boone; her daughters, Shari(Meyeres)Koehn and husband Marty of Boone, Laura(Meyeres)Garcia and companion James Deemer of Tekamah, Nebraska, and Christy(Smith)Lewis and husband Gary of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a son, Eugene Smith and wife Molly of Pawnee, Oklahoma; two sisters, Zella Babcock and husband David of Blue Eye, Missouri, and Peggy Kellison and husband Gayland of Purcell, Oklahoma; 22 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; her buddy, Pepe, her Chiwawa; a sister-in-law, Anita Meschberger and husband Marion of Stafford, Kansas and a brother-in-law, Fred Smith of Lexington, Nebraska.

Friends may call at the Funeral Chapel on Saturday, from 8 a.m. until service time. The family will be present beginning at 9 a.m.
