Marie E. Alden, 94 of Boone, passed from this life to eternal life on Monday, January 22, 2018, at Westhaven Community. A Memorial Service will be Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 11:00 A.M., at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Lindsay Watkins officiating. A private burial of her cremains will be in the Hampton Cemetery in Hampton at a later date. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Lunch will be served immediately after the service in the church hall.

Marie Elizabeth Eichmann was born on January 13, 1924, to Frederick and Elizabeth (Buchamer) Eichmann on their farm near Mason City, Iowa. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith. Marie grew up the only daughter among four brothers. She attended school through eighth grade. Although she wanted very much to continue her formal education, economic circumstances directed her to work as a domestic for families in Mason City. She later worked in a meat canning factory in Mason City. Marie met her future husband, Navy sailor, Rolland Virgil Alden, at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. They were married on February 24, 1946. The couple settled on the Alden family farm near Latimer. Three children were born to this union, Rolland Dean, Kathleen, and Christine. While the children were young, Marie was a full-time mother and farm assistant. Her husband, Rolland, died on October 7, 1967. After working several jobs, Marie settled into a full-time position as a cook and kitchen manager at Hampton Nursing Home. After retiring, Marie moved to Boone to be near family. In Boone, she worked part-time for several years as a cook for Trinity Lutheran Parochial School. She lived in Westhaven Community for the past four years. She was a former member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Latimer and a current member of Trinity Lutheran in Boone. Marie will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her strong work ethic, her beautiful voice, and the best angel-food cakes and coleslaw.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her son, Rolland Dean; in-laws, Abner and Emma Alden; sister-in-law, Lelah Etnier; an infant brother; brothers and their wives, Fred and Yvonne, Alec and Lillian; brother, Henry; grandson, Marlin Alden; special niece, Karen Plagge, as well as several other nieces nephews.
