Obituary for Marilee Taylor

Marilee Taylor, age 76 of Boone, died May 15, 2017 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.

Following her wishes, Marilee has been cremated. A Memorial service will be held Monday, May 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Evangelical Free Church in Boone, with Pastor Tom Mason officiating. Burial of her cremains will be in the Mineral Ridge Cemetery in Ridgeport.

Marilee Jewel (Porter) Taylor, was born in Dumont, Iowa on November 23, 1940, the daughter of Francis and Olga (Wadsworth) Porter. She graduated from Sheffield High School in Sheffield and on July 5, 1959, Marilee married Gerald Taylor in Sheffield. In earlier years, Marilee worked in food service at the Evangelical Free Church Home (Westhaven Community). In 1988, she began working at Iowa State University in food service. Marilee retired in 2006. She was a member of the First Evangelical Free Church, the Fraternal Order of Eagles, originally in Boone and later in Tama, she was a Foster Grandparent, and involved with Awana’s and Lados. Marilee enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs, reading, country music, camping, and spending time with family and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents; husband Gerald; three brothers, James, Jerry, and Hank; two sisters, Leona and Beverly; two sons-in-law, Mike Smith and Robert Miller; two sisters-in-law, Maribell Anderson and Patricia Clough; brothers-in-law, Charlie Taylor, George Taylor, and Robert Brown.

Marilee is survived by a son Chad Taylor and Becky Ball of Boone; three daughters, Brenda Smith of Nevada, Tawnya Sullivan and husband John and Kim Miller all of Boone; a sister Edna Brown of Mason City; a brother-in-law Verle ‘Butch’ Whipple of Dows; six grandchildren, Amber (Mike) Miller and Cole Smith all of Nevada, Bobby (Mickie) Miller of Grimes, Katlyn (Garrett) Crouch of Boone, Lakota Taylor and Briley Slagle all of Waukee; four great grandchildren, Savannah, Brayden, and Emma Miller of Nevada, and Lincoln Miller of Grimes.

Friends may call at the First Evangelical Free Church on Sunday from 5 to 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. On Monday, friends may call at the Church from 9:30 a.m. until service time.
