Obituary for Mary J. Hovick

Mary Hovick, age 66, of Madrid and formerly of Boone, died November 4, 2016 at the Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
A Celebration of Mary’s Life, will be Tuesday, November 8, 2016, at 2:00 p.m., at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery west of Boone.
Mary Moran Hovick, was born in Boone, Iowa on February 3, 1950, the daughter of Jane (Lamphere) Moran. She graduated from Boone High School in 1968 and attended Iowa State University and DMACC in Ankeny. Mary worked as a case worker for Link Associates in Des Moines. She took great pride in her work and her association with her clients and co-workers which were a treasure in her life.
Mary enjoyed gardening, fishing, baking, reading, sewing, and making crafts, which she would sell at the Ames Farmer’s Market.
Mary also loved animals, shopping, especially at JC Penny, and always enjoying a can of Pepsi. She loved spending time with her family and she touched everyone she met.
Mary is preceded in death by her mother, Jane Moran, her son, Gary Hovick, Jr., a brother Dick Moran, a sister Jackie Bazor, and her companion, Danny Lawrence. She is survived by her daughter, Amy Hovick of Madrid; a brother Ron (Ellie) Moran of Creston; 5 grandchildren, Wesley Hovick of Ames, Brooke Hovick of West Des Moines, Hannah (Caleb) Elliott of Boone, Kaleb Swalwell of Denison, and Josie Knight of Madrid; a great grandson, Samuel Elliott; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Friends may call at the Schroeder Memorial Chapel on Monday from 4 until 8 p.m. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m.
Visitation continues on Tuesday, from 8 a.m. until service time.
In memory of Mary, memorials may be directed to the family.
