Obituary for Maynard Darwin Lind

Maynard Lind, age 95, of Boone, died Friday, January 5, 2018, at the Eastern Star Masonic Home.

Following his wishes, he has been cremated. A Celebration of Life service will be Friday, January 12, 2018, at 10:30 A.M. at the Marion Street United Methodist Church with Pastor James Barnett officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery, west of Boone at a later date.

Friends may call at Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall on Thursday, January 11, 2018 from 5 to 8 P.M. with family present from 6 to 8 P.M. Visitation continues Friday at the Church from 9:30 A.M. until service time.

Maynard Darwin “Shorty” Lind was born in rural Harcourt, Iowa on April 2, 1922, the son of Reuben Aarner and Laura Mettie (Johnson) Lind. He graduated from Pilot Mound High School in 1939. On April 2, 1942, he married Lillian Agnes Anderson in Kansas. The couple lived in Pilot Mound until 1958 when they moved to Boone. In his younger years, Maynard worked for local farmers around Pilot Mound. After that he worked at International Harvester Dealers in Boone, Ogden and Nevada for over 25 years. He then managed A&L Mobil Gas Station in Boone. He also worked for Miller Oil Company at 5th and Story for several years.

Maynard was a member of the Marion Street United Methodist Church. He was a hardworking, kindhearted and soft spoken man who enjoyed working, camping, doing jig-saw puzzles, playing with his pets, Roxie and Muffie and reading children’s books to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Most of all, He dearly loved spending time with his family. He would go on long bike rides and during the rides he would pick up pop cans. So many cans, that it came to the sum of thousands of dollars that he set aside for his grandchildren’s college expenses.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Lillian on November 14, 2015; two brothers, Arnold and John “Jack” Lind and a daughter-in-law Marjorie Lind. He is survived by his son, Richard Lind of Ames; two daughters, Dianne Eppert of Boone and Lori Wildeman and husband, Arlen of Boone; five grandchildren, Michelle Eppert of Ames, Michael Eppert of Boone, Brian Eppert of Ogden, Katie Price and her husband, Tony of Boone and Kelsie Linderblood and her husband, Adam of Waukee; nine great grandchildren, Rachel Stiehm, Mikayla, Hannah and Jayda Eppert, Bailey and Emma Price and Alivia, Kaelyn and Owen Linderblood; two brothers, Jim Lind and his wife, Karen of Boone and Carroll Lind and his wife, Julie of Ogden; one sister, Velma Feagins and her husband, CL “Butch” of Fraser; two brothers-in-law, Gary Anderson and wife, Pam of Boone and Duane “Butch” Anderson of Boone; and a sister-in-law, Helen “Peg” Bielfelt of Boone.

In memory of Maynard, memorials may be directed to the Marion Street United Methodist Church.
