Obituary for Richard A Beachler

Beloved husband, father, son, and brother, Richard Allen Beachler, 66, of Boone, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2017 at the Northcrest Community in Ames, after a long battle with brain cancer.

Following his wishes, Rich has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 10:30 A.M., at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall. Burial of his cremains will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Richard Allen Beachler, was born in Omaha, Nebraska on September 10, 1951, the son of Kenneth and June (Ostlund) Beachler. In 1961, the family moved to Bettendorf, Iowa where he graduated from Bettendorf High School in 1969. Rich then moved to Ames, Iowa where he met and fell in love with Leanne Garland. The couple were married June 16, 1973 in Ames. Rich attended Iowa State University and graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor’s degree in Advertisement Design. He worked for Iowa State University in the Media Graphics Department from 1978 until his retirement in 2011. After retirement, Rich worked part time at the DMACC Career Academy in Ames, as a Visual Communications Instructor.

Rich was an extraordinarily gifted guitarist and music was his life’s passion. He was well known in the music community, having played around central Iowa for over 40 years. Rich was a member of the Des Moines Musicians Association. He also had a deep love of art, and was a talented artist himself. Rich enjoyed computer games with his son and fishing.

He is preceded in death by his father and his grandparents. Rich is survived by his wife Leanne of Boone; a daughter, Aleda (Timm) Richardson of West Des Moines; a son, Ian Beachler and his fiancé Ashley Honts of Ames; his mother, June Beachler and a sister, Janet (Roger) Shurtz all of Wichita, Kansas; a brother, Scott Beachler of Lincoln, Nebraska; several nieces, nephews, in-laws, and his best buddy, Winston, Leanne’s Welsh Corgi dog.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel on Friday, from 4 until 8 P.M. where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. On Saturday, friends may call from 8 A.M. until service time.
