Obituary for Rose Ann Quigley

Rose Quigley, 81, of Boone and the Westhaven Community, died at Westhaven on August 3, 2017.

Funeral services will be Monday, August 7, 2017 at 10:30 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Boone with Rev. Douglas Cue and Chaplain Jeff McDowell officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery.

Rose Ann (Miller) Quigley was born on November 30, 1935, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of William and Ruth (Dailey) Miller. She attended Boone High School. On September 30, 1978, Rose married John Quigley in Osceola, Iowa.

In earlier years, Rose worked as a waitress, shoe and grocery store clerk, machine operator at the former Heinrich Envelope Co. in Boone, assembly at the former George A. Rolfes Co. in Boone, and a line inspector at Sundstrand in Ames. She later worked in food service for the Boone Community School District. In 1992, she and her husband, John, retired together. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion Auxiliaries, and Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP).

Rose loved fishing and cooking. She would volunteer to cook for fundraisers because of her love of cooking for large groups. She enjoyed RV camping, needlework, playing cards and other games, slot machines and most of all, socializing with friends and family. Rose and John made regular trips to Camdenton, Missouri, where they spent time at their cabin on the Lake of the Ozarks.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John in 2010; three sisters, Vera Condon, Janice Shadle, and Nancy Miller; six brothers, Lavern ‘Vern’, Virgil, Lawrence ‘Bud’, Floyd ‘Ed’, Garold ‘Lloyd’, and James ‘Ray’ Miller.

Rose is survived by her son, Kevin Godwin and wife, Sharon of Sioux City; her daughter, Gayla (Godwin) Harken and husband, Mike of Boone; a step-daughter, Debra Quigley of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Jessica Brakke and husband, Ryan, of Grimes and Andrea Karr and husband Adam of Billings, Missouri; four brothers, Paul Miller and wife Patricia, Bernard Miller and wife Sharon, all of Boone, Lauren Miller and wife Barbara of Ankeny, and Jack Miller and wife Fran of Luther; a sister, Joyce Kirk and husband, Larry of Ames and 57 nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at Chapel of the Westhaven Community, on Sunday from 1:00 to 3:00p.m., where the family will be present. Visitation continues Monday at the Church from 9:30 a.m. to service time.

In memory of Rose, memorials may be directed to the family to be used at their discretion.
