Obituary for Betty Rose Bigelbach

Betty Rose Bigelbach, age 85, of Boone, passed away on May 29, 2019 at her home in Boone.
Betty was born on January 20, 1934, in Boone, Iowa, the daughter of Roscoe and Nancy Rose. She attended school in Boone and graduated from Boone High School and Boone Junior College. She then entered the convent of the Sisters Of Charity Of The Blessed Virgin Mary in Dubuque, Iowa and remained there for two years until family circumstances caused her return home. Betty then moved to St. Paul, Minnesota where she taught at the St. Mary’s Catholic grade school. She then worked as a reference librarian at the College of St. Thomas and also at the St. Paul Seminary. She was married to Thomas Bigelbach and to this union, two children were born. After retiring from her position at the St. Paul Seminary, Betty became interested in massage therapy and starting her own business, worked in this practice for several years. In 2008, Betty married her childhood sweetheart, Dan Doherty and at that time she moved back to Boone, Iowa where she resided until her death.
Betty was preceded in death by her father and mother; brother, James; sister, Norma who died in infancy, sister Nancy, and brother David. She is survived by her husband, Dan Doherty of Boone, IA, her sons, Michael Bigelbach of Sergeant Bluff, IA and David (Gaynor) Bigelbach of Shirley, MA; also two grandsons, Owen and Anders of Shirley, MA; her sister-in-law, Marcella Rose of Oceanside, CA; nephew James (Tonya) Rose of Jackson, WY; nieces, Nanna Rose of St. Joseph, MO, Patricia (Bruce) Brink of Kansas, MO, Bobbi (Steve) Giannell of Oceanside, CA, Sandra Noskowiak of Ramona, CA; and many grand nieces and grand nephews. She is also survived by step children, Kelli Bennett, of Boone, IA and Michael Doherty of Tampa, FL as well as a large extended family.
Betty was a caring mother and a devoted wife. Betty loved the performing arts, literature, music and was gifted with a wonderful voice. Most of all she loved her Lord Jesus, His Church and her family.
A funeral mass was held on Friday, May 31, 2019 at the Church of the Sacred Heart in Boone. Burial was in the Linwood Park Cemetery in Boone. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel and online condolences may be left at www.schroedermemorialchapel.com.
