Harold Edward “Ed” Trites was born in Boone on May 10, 1931, the Son of Henry and Bertha (Mahlow) Trites. He graduated from Boone High School in 1950 and then attended the Boone Junior College and the University of Iowa. On June 20, 1954, Ed married Phyllis Elaine Pollard in Boone. Ed worked for the city of Boone as a police officer from 1960 until his retirement in 1985. During his service he was the Boone Assistant Police Chief. He was in the National Guard for nine years.

Ed enjoyed serving on the Board of Trustees at the First Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Mount Olive Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Iowa Police Association. He enjoyed gardening, caring for his golden retrievers and was an avid swimmer at the YMCA.

Ed is preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis; parents and a brother-in-law, Pete Case. He is survived by his son, Henry Trites and wife, Tammi, of Granville, Ohio; a daughter, Felicia Gage and husband, Chris, of Boone; his grandchildren, Mitchell Gage and wife, Rachel, of Chicago, Illinois, and Madeline Gage of Des Moines; sister, Colleen Case of Seattle, Washington; and several nieces and nephews.

The Trites’ family would like to recognize the wonderful nurses and caregivers at the Eastern Star Home who sincerely loved Ed and cared for him during his stay.
