Obituary for Marjorie Ruth McNeil

Marjorie McNeil, age 90, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died October 11, 2018, at the Home.

Funeral Services will be Friday, October 19, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Rev. Janell Bloem officiating. Burial will be in Linwood Park Cemetery.

Marjorie Ruth McNeil, was born in Boone, Iowa, on November 16, 1927, the daughter of George and Catherine (Roberts) Minson. She graduated from Boone High School in 1946. After high school, Marjorie worked as a secretary. On June 4, 1950, Marge married Ronald ‘Ron’ McNeil at the First Baptist Church in Boone. To this union, two children were born, Thomas and Jean. Marge was a home maker for her family. After her children were in high school, she returned to her career as a legal secretary for many years and later as a secretary for the Dean of Education at Iowa State University for twelve years until her retirement in 1990.

Marge was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was active in church circle and various committees. She was an avid reader and enjoyed playing bridge. Marge and her family enjoyed fishing vacations to Sioux Lookout in Ontario, Canada. After retirement, Marge and Ron spent winters in South Padre Island, Texas and Lake Havasu, Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron in 2015 and her parents and her siblings, James Minson, Marilyn Stoops and Martha Carswell. Marge is survived by a son, Thomas McNeil and wife, Ann of Wentzville, Missouri; a daughter, Jean McNeil Dunn and husband, David of Eldora; and six grandchildren, Katherine Staudt and her husband, Josh, of Clive, Elizabeth Dunn of Chicago, Illinois, William Dunn and wife, Katherine of Iowa City, Sarah McNeil of Mesa, Arizona, Amy Stewart and her husband, James, of Mesa, Arizona, and Amanda Llewellyn and her husband, Blake, of Wentzville, Missouri; two great-grandchildren, Norah Staudt and Cameron Llewellyn and her sister, Maurine Morris of Boone.

Friends may call at the First Baptist Church in Boone at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service.
