Obituary for Mildred Elvira Clark

Mildred Clark, age 96 of Boone, died February 17, 2018 at her home.
Following her wishes, Mildred has been cremated. A Celebration of Mildred’s Life, will be held at a later date. Her cremains will be buried in the Nevada Cemetery in Nevada.

Mildred E. (Toppenberg) Clark was born in Nevada, Iowa on May 17, 1921, the daughter of Ole and Eleanora (Christiansen) Toppenberg. She graduated from Nevada High School in 1939. On August 16, 1940, Mildred married Edward Clark in Ames, Iowa. In earlier years, Mildred worked as a cook at the Evangelical Free Church Home (Westhaven Community). She then worked as dietician at the Boone County Hospital and later worked as a cook at the Towers and for the Alpha Zeta Delta Sorority at Iowa State University.

Mildred loved the Iowa State Cyclones, especially men’s basketball. She also was cook for the Cyclones basketball and football training tables. Mildred also enjoyed crocheting, feeding and watching birds, flower gardening, especially iris, going on rides and viewing the area wildlife, watch T.V. games shows, and she enjoyed cooking, baking, and spending time with her family.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a great granddaughter, Kahelena Buchin, four brothers, Hugo, Fritz, Otto, and Elmar Toppenberg. Mildred is survived by five sons, James (Joyce) Clark of Lancaster, Kentucky, Tim (Sharon) Clark of Pearland, Texas, Robert (Cheryl) Clark of Boone, John Clark of Louisville, Kentucky, and Alan (Ann) Clark of Sheboygan, Wisconsin; four daughters, Susan (Darrell) Falstad, Park Falls, Wisconsin, Jane Clark and Terry (Ron) Becker all of Boone, and Sally (Jim) Brinkman of Columbus, Ohio; a sister, Olga Marie Adams of Loveland, Colorado; 25 grand, 45 great-grand, and 2 great-great- grandchildren; 4 step grand, 6 step great-grand, and 3 step great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend special Thanks to Mildred’s niece, Carol Banks Baker for her visits.

The family request no flowers and request that memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice in memory of Mildred.
