Obituary for Harold Frederick Gildea

Harold Gildea, 97 of Boone and the Westhaven Community, died on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at Westhaven.

Following Harold’s wishes, he has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be Wednesday, April 18, 2018 at 1:00 P.M., at the Central Christian Church with Pastor Mike Carlson officiating. Burial of his cremains will be in the Squire Boone Cemetery with Military Honors conducted by the Boone Veterans Council.

Harold Frederick Gildea, was born in Boone, Iowa on March 26, 1921, the son of Fred and Bernice (Boyd) Gildea. He was a graduate of Luther High School in 1942. He was drafted into the United States Army after high school and served as a Military Policeman during World War II. Harold was united in marriage to Audrey May Moore in February of 1950 at First United Methodist Church in Boone. To this union three children were born: Clifford, Wayne and Beth. The couple later divorced. He was united in marriage to Mary A. Morris on August 18, 1973 at Central Christian Church in Boone.

Harold was a farmer and farmed the land that his family had farmed for over 150 years near Luther. Harold was a member of the V.F.W. Post #5060 of Madrid, the Masons, Mount Olive Lodge #79 AF & AM of Boone, American Legion Post #56 of Boone and First United Methodist Church in Luther. In his free time, he enjoyed farming, wood working, gardening and wildlife, especially bird watching. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bill Gildea; one sister, Helen Absher; one son-in-law, David Lycke. Harold is survived by his wife, Mary of Boone; three children, Clifford H. Gildea of Slater, Wayne M. Gildea and wife, Cindy of Boone and Beth Ann Lycke of Nevada; one sister, Lois Riker of Boone; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to Central Christian Church.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall, on Tuesday, from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. The family will be present during this time. On Wednesday, friends may call at the Church from 12 noon until service time.
