Obituary for Wendy Sue Miller

Wendy Miller, 61, of Luther, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, November 22, 2017, from a short battle with cancer, at the Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa.

Following her wishes, Wendy has been cremated. A Memorial Service will be Saturday, December 2, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel, at Sixth and Marshall. A private family burial of her cremains will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Moingona at a later date.

Wendy Sue (Mallicoat) Miller, was born in Boone, Iowa on May 4, 1956, the daughter of Gary and Janice (Carpenter) Mallicoat. She graduated from Boone High School in 1974, and in 1976, Wendy graduated from Boone DMACC with a Degree in Nursing. She met a man from Marshall, Minnesota named, Mike Miller. They were married August 13, 1982 in Madrid, Iowa.

Wendy worked as a LPN for 12 years at the former Ledges Manor in Boone and at the Madrid Home. She took a break from working to raise her daughter, Rebecca, and then returned to work for Boone County as a 911 dispatcher. A position she worked for 14 years. Wendy found the greatest joy in her working life was in the last couple of years when she was working for Universal Pediatrics of Urbandale, Iowa, providing in home care to Alex Buckles of Boone.

Wendy enjoyed helping and being with her family, listening to ‘Talk Radio’, reading, Facebook, and over the years, caring for her dogs and cats. Her two favorite charities were, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and the Animal Rescue League, which she supported for many years.

She is preceded in death by her parents. Wendy is survived by her husband, Mike of Luther; her daughter, Rebecca Wisecup and husband Beau of Ames; her first grandchild, a girl, to be born in March of 2018, a sister, Ann Reeves of Madrid; two brothers, Scott Mallicoat and wife Deb of Boone and Mike Mallicoat and wife Lori of Perry.

Friends may call at the Schroeder-Reimers Memorial Chapel on Friday, from 4 until 8 p.m., where the family will be present from 6 until 8 p.m. Visitation continues Saturday morning from 8 a.m. until service time.

In memory of Wendy, memorials may be directed to St. Jude
Children’s Research Hospital.
