Obituary for Christene Fritcher

Chris Fritcher, age 90 of Boone, passed away December 14, 2017 at the Boone County Hospital.
Following her wishes, Chris has been cremated and no visitation or Memorial Services will be held.
Effie Christene (Ahrens) Fritcher, was born in Marathon, Iowa on August 30, 1927, the daughter of Louis and Maude (Garton) Ahrens.
Chris attended school in Ridgeport, Iowa as a young girl. At the age of 10, she began working for other families: cooking and taking care of their children. Chris married Paul Fritcher on August 12, 1946 in Boone, after he returned from serving with the United States Navy during World War II. They moved into Paul’s family home where they would spend the next 71 years together.
In addition to raising her two children, Chris worked at Bourns in Ames for 25 years until she retired. She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing, cooking, baking, and caring for her family. Chris loved to crochet dolls for children and make ‘scrubbers’, potholders, and blankets for countless others. Chris and Paul could often be found at their kitchen table sharing coffee and conversation with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Ross ‘Bud’ Ahrens, Marvin ‘Fritz’ Ahrens, and John Ahrens; sisters, Ferne Craven and Lois Becker. Chris is survived by her husband, Paul of Boone; her son, Joe (Deborah) Fritcher of Boone; daughter, Jody Fritcher (Danny Metcalf) of Boone; three grandchildren, Serena Rogers (Jeremy Spillman) of Johnston, Jason Fritcher of West Des Moines, and Nathan Fritcher of Boone; three great-grandchildren, Carter, Bryce, and Reid Rognes; a brother, George (Glenda) Ahrens of Boone; a sister, Mary (Howard) Conard of Boone.
